Dear Sir / Madam, I approach you in the matter of sponsorship of the 3rd International Symposium on Digital Earth 2003, which takes place in Brno, Czech Republic on 21 - 25 September 2003 under the patronage of Mr. Jiří Zlatuška, Rector of Masaryk University in Brno. It is the third conference on this topic (the first took place in 1999 in P.R. of China, the second in 2001 in Canada); we organize it in cooperation with the International Society on Digital Earth, the European Union, and several other international organizations. The Digital Earth initiative cooperates with other global activities, such as Global Map, Global Spatial Data Infrastructure, or Geographic Information for Sustainable Development. Our symposium is perceived as an important part of preparation of the World Summit for Information Society. It is a bridge between the World Summit for Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg in 2002, and the above mentioned information summit. The program of our event is very broad; its aim is to exchange ideas and strengthen the trends of information society development on global, regional and local scales with respect to principles of sustainable development. We await participation of 400 experts from all over the world; large delegations are expected especially from P.R. of China, India, Russia, and Malaysia. Large participation of experts from east and central Europe, EU member countries and – traditionally – from the USA and Canada is also expected. Our laboratory was invited to take care of the event because of its high reputation gained during organization of five highly acclaimed international conferences Brno GIS and the AGILE 2001 conference, that have been supported both by management of Masaryk University, and by ministries and public authorities of the Czech Republic. Our events are considered unique in the central European area. We want to make sure that also this conference is organized in the best possible way and we also want to enable participation of young scientists and students especially from the developing countries. Therefore we take the liberty to address you as a potential sponsor, and as a company who either directly uses or stimulates use of spatial information in its activities related to remote sensing, GIS, mobile information, or ecology, but also in the areas of e-Government, e-Parliament, local based services, or risk management, or is interested in development in the above mentioned areas.
